Are We Enjoying Life — or Enjoying Iman?

The Modern Obsession: Enjoying Life

Today, most people are consumed by one question:

How can I enjoy life more?

Our thoughts revolve around comfort, entertainment, and worldly pleasures. Luxury, travel, and lifestyle have become the benchmarks of success.

But in stark contrast, the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions lived with a different awareness:

What will happen when the world ends?

The Prophet’s Reminder of the End

The Prophet ﷺ once said:

“I can see Israfil with the trumpet already at his lips, his cheeks swollen, and his eyes fixed on the Throne, waiting for the command to blow.”

When the Companions heard this, they were shaken. They asked:

“Has the time come? Is it over for us?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“At that moment, all you can say is what Ibrahim said: Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel — Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”

More Than Words — A State of Heart

This wasn’t just a phrase. It was a deep spiritual state — surrender, trust, and readiness.

The Prophet ﷺ and his Companions didn’t live in fear for fear’s sake. They lived in iman — and they enjoyed that iman. It was their joy, their strength, their purpose.

Our Reality: Surface Faith

We, on the other hand, are mostly focused on enjoying life. We taste only the surface meaning of Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel, while they lived fully immersed in it.

The Big Question

So we must ask ourselves:

Are we enjoying life — or enjoying iman?

One leads to fleeting delight. The other leads to eternal success.

A Prayer for Guidance

May Allah bless us with hearts anchored in faith, lives driven by purpose, and endings that meet His pleasure.

May Allah allow us to work for conveying His message to all people — with wisdom, humility, and compassion. Ameen.
